China, Europe and the world after globalization - Internazionale Festival in Ferrara
- Date: December 2, 2024
The path to modernity, the roots of development, the rise of nationalism, and the crisis of Western democracy. The new international balances and China's role in a post-globalization world.
Wang Hui, one of the most acclaimed public intellectuals both in China and internationally, was interviewed by Lorenzo Marsili, philosopher and Berggruen Institute Europe director, for a conversation reflecting on the shifting balance of power in the world and China's role within it. Wang Hui‘s magnum opus, The Rise of Modern Chinese Thought, delineates the long history of China’s path to modernity. Together with his writings on political thought, Wang's thinking is crucial for understanding some of the key issues today, including the roots of the Chinese development path, China’s understanding of the world, and China’s internationalist and globalist projects. The discussion focused also on questions of common concern, such as the crisis of democracy in the West, (ethno)nationalism, and what a post-globalization world looks like from a Chinese perspective.
The conversation will be published in the popular magazine.
