Berggruen Institute Gathers International Leaders, Thinkers for East-West Dialogue at Casa dei Tre Oci in Venice, Italy

The Berggruen Institute gathered leaders and thinkers at its European center for activities, Casa dei Tre Oci on the island of Giudecca in Venice, for a dialogue between China and democracies around the world. Hailing from East and West, the gathering included former and current policymakers, academics, writers, and technologists: Nicolas Berggruen; Mario Monti; Helle Thorning-Schmidt; Henry Kissinger; Pascal Lamy; Kai-Fu Lee; Evan Spiegel; Tiziana Lippiello; George Yeo; Ernesto Zedillo; Gordon Brown; Kishore Mahbubani; Kevin Rudd; Eric Schmidt; Susan Thornton; Matt Browne; Shashi Tharoor; Nathan Gardels; Anne-Marie Slaughter; Song Bing; Dawn Nakagawa; Ching Ho; Xuetong Yan; and Yongnian Zheng.

Motivated by a concern for the deteriorating relationship between China and the West, the group developed possible paths for dialogue on critical issues from the Ukraine to climate change. Gathered by the Berggruen Institute, an independent research center and policy think-tank with centers in Los Angeles, Beijing, and now in Venice, Italy. Founded in 2010 by Nicolas Berggruen and Nathan Gardels, the Berggruen Institute focuses on developing ideas on which to build new institutions equipped to manage the challenges of the 21st century. The institute recently announced its intention to open a European center of operation at Casa dei Tre Oci.

“Venice has been the gateway linking the West to the East for over 700 years,” said Nicolas Berggruen. “It is the perfect place from which to build bridges between cultures.”

VENEZIA 10 Giugno 2022 — L’Istituto Berggruen ha riunito leader e pensatori nel suo centro di attività europeo, la Casa dei Tre Oci all’isola della Giudecca a Venezia, per un dialogo tra la Cina e le democrazie di tutto il mondo. Provenienti dall’est e dall’ovest, l’incontro includeva politici, accademici, scrittori e tecnologi ex e attuali: Nicolas Berggruen; Mario Monti; Helle Thorning-Schmidt; Henry Kissinger; Pascal Lamy; Kai-Fu Lee; Evan Spiegel; Tiziana Lippiello; Giorgio Yeo; Ernesto Zedillo; Gordon Brown; Kishore Mahbubani; Kevin Rudd; Eric Schmidt; Susan Thornton; Matt Browne; Shashi Tharoor; Nathan Gardels; Anne Marie Slaughter; Canzone Bing; Alba Nakagawa; Ching Ho; Xuetong Yan; e Yongnian Zheng.

Spinto dal proposito di rafforzare le relazioni tra Cina, il gruppo ha sviluppato possibili percorsi di dialogo su questioni critiche dall’Ucraina al cambiamento climatico. Il gruppo è stato riunito dal Berggruen Institute, un centro di ricerca indipendente e un think tank politico con sede a Los Angeles, Beijing, e Venezia. L’istituto ha recentemente acquistato due immobili a Venezia – Casa dei Tre Oci– che diventeranno i centri delle sue attività in Europa. Fondato nel 2010 da Nicolas Berggruen e Nathan Gardels, il Berggruen Institute si concentra sullo sviluppo di idee su cui costruire nuove istituzioni attrezzate per gestire le sfide del 21° secolo.
