What futures emerge when science and fiction evolve together?

How do imagination and experiment shape worlds that could exist beyond our own?

---

Proxima Kósmos: Volume II – Fictions & Futures expands the speculative universe introduced in Volume I, tracing the architectures, experiments, and narratives that give rise to the nine imagined worlds of Proxima Kósmos. This volume explores how scientific models become stories, how design becomes discovery, and how fiction can illuminate the outer edges of knowledge itself.

With contributions from Claire Isabel Webb (Director, Future Humans), sci-fi writer Stanley Chen, and others, Fictions & Futures merges scientific inquiry with science fiction to reveal how life might emerge under radically different conditions. Through essays, stories, and design insights, readers will explore:

  • The methods scientists use to model alien habitability—from assembly theory and tectonic cognition to synthetic minds.
  • The feedback loops between storytelling, speculation, and experimentation in the search for life.
  • The evolving relationship between humanity, technology, and the planetary.

Alongside these investigations, this issue invites readers to participate in the act of creation itself—remixing scientific principles and speculative design into new worlds of their own imagining.

Fictions & Futures is part of a limited-edition, four-part series, designed to complement the interactive Proxima Kósmos platform, where scientific research, speculative design, and digital storytelling converge.
