Proxima Kósmos Science Convening

Proxima Kósmos
  • Date: May 6, 2025

On Tuesday, May 6, from 4:00–5:00 PM Eastern Time, the Berggruen Institute will host the Proxima Kósmos Science Convening, a public virtual event showcasing new approaches to scientific modeling and speculative planetary design.

Proxima Kósmos is a research initiative from the Institute’s Future Humans program that merges planetary science, astrobiology, and speculative design to prototype a scientifically plausible solar system of nine exoplanets. Each planet is co-developed by a team of scientists and creative collaborators, integrating real-world environmental modeling, chemical plausibility, and theoretical constraints with narrative and visual design.

The convening will be led by Dr. Claire Isabel Webb, Director of Future Humans and will include presentations from:

• Dr. Sara Seager (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)
• Dr. Penny Boston (NASA Ames Research Center)
• Dr. Lee Cronin (University of Glasgow)
• Dr. Sam Kriegman (Northwestern University)
• Estelle Janin (Arizona State University)
