Multispecies Constitution Debate & Discussion

Multispecies Constitution Debate & Discussion

Our political systems struggle to meet even human needs, let alone the demands of a living planet. The Berggruen Institute’s Planetary and Future Humans programs convened scientists, philosophers, and constitutional law scholars to ask a radical question: how might we build governance structures beyond the human? The Multispecies Constitution project envisions a new politics rooted in interspecies interdependence and mutual thriving.

Over two days, participants debated a draft Multispecies Constitution, interrogating its assumptions, challenging its design, and expanding its horizons. These discussions worked to push forward a legal imagination that refuses human exceptionalism and embraces the entangled fates of all beings.
