Cuiling Issue I

The first issue, released in 2022, focused on “planetary wisdom.“ It introduced the concept of “planetary thinking,“ as advocated by the Berggruen Institute, urging humanity to move beyond anthropocentric views, confront the limitations of modernity and the national state paradigm, and engage in deep reflections on the human condition within a holistic and planetary ecosystem.
What is the philosophical basis of planetary thinking, And what kind of worldview would we need to actualize it? To address these questions, the issue featured discussions on the concept of co-becoming in East Asian contexts, referring to the interdependence and mutual embeddedness between humans, nature, and individuals themselves. This discussion draws upon the philosophical systems of Confucianism, Daoism, and local folk beliefs to enrich contemporary notions of co-becoming.
